Frequently Asked Rebate Questions

Q: What inspection documentation forms do I use as a propane retailer for the “safety check”?

A: New York PERC recommends the use of Gas Check/P3 (or equivalent) safety inspection forms for those that don’t have their own internal forms. The safety check form must be signed by the service tech and the customer and include equipment information, container/cylinder check, pressure check, system leak check, and regulator check with flow and lock-up pressure.

Q: What is the eligibility period to apply?

A: To receive a rebate, the propane supplier must register on rebates.propanenewyork.com prior to or upon installation.

The Rebate Program will be open through December 31, 2026; or until funding is depleted. Appliances must be installed by December 31, 2026 to qualify for eligibility. Applications received after the deadline or installations occurring outside the designated timeframe will not be processed.

Q: What forms need to be filled out?

A: The rebate program is now fully online, and marketer registration is required to access the submission portal. The Propane Marketer Accredited Representative (PMAR) is responsible for submitting all completed documentation through the portal, including confirmation that a post-installation safety inspection has been completed and uploading a paid, dated invoice for the qualifying appliance.

All submissions must ensure the customer’s rebate address matches their correct mailing address, including zip code. Only complete applications with all required documentation will be processed.

Q: What appliances are eligible for the NY PERC Safe Installation/Rebate program?

Appliance Description Rebate for Converting from Another Fuel Rebate for Upgrading from Older Propane Equipment
Propane Water Heater $350 $200
Propane Furnace $450 $300
Propane Boiler $450 $300

Q: May the consumer get more than one rebate for more than one appliance in the household?

A: Yes. If a consumer is installing both a propane water heater (new or existing LP burner tip) and propane furnace or boiler, they can bundle these rebates up to a maximum combined rebate of $550.

Q: What does the safety inspection required with these rebates entail?

A: As a participant in this program, you certify that the safety inspection accompanying the installation of the qualifying appliance(s) included one or more of the following:

  1. A leak test
  2. A pressure test, if required by applicable laws, rules, and regulations
  3. A flow and lock-up test on the regulator(s)

Q: What about propane-to-propane conversions and new installations in new construction?

A: Propane-to-propane conversions and new construction installations are eligible. New construction appliances are eligible for the same rebate as “Converting from Another Fuel” noted above.

Q: Who submits the rebate?

A: All appliance rebate applications must be submitted by a propane provider licensed in New York.

Only registered New York propane marketers can submit rebate submissions, which must be made through the online application portal. The propane marketer is responsible for documenting that all propane appliances (installed and/or replaced) have been correctly identified and that a safety inspection has been completed.

Q: How do I submit a rebate?

Navigate to the Dashboard. Click on Apply for Rebate and Appliance Rebate Program. Fill out the form (all fields must be filled out accurately). Upload the proof of purchase (copy of the end user’s sales receipt or paid zero balance invoice). Click  Submit.

Q: What do the rebate status mean?

Submitted – Marketer has submitted the rebate, and it cannot be edited. At this point, the rebate program has everything it needs from you, and the rebate will enter the queue to be processed.

Incomplete – Your rebate is missing information, or there was incorrect information that must be updated. You must edit and/or submit missing information within 30 days or it will expire and be Declined.

Updated – You have submitted the missing information and your rebate will be reviewed.

Processing – The application is approved, and the check is being processed.

Declined – The rebate form was declined. You will be notified with the reason for the application rejection. Declined rebates cannot be resubmitted.

Payment Sent – The rebate check has been mailed to the recipient.

Q: Where will the rebate check be sent?

Rebate checks go to the end user and cannot be reassigned to the propane provider.
